Great to see and hear about the dangers of closing doors on the BBC website and Radio Two today.
Whilst children and toddlers can suffer lifelong disabilities doors unfortunately do not discriminate by age and injuries can happen to both young and old alike. That is why residential care homes as well as schools and nurseries install door finger devices.
However we disgaree with the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in relation to the solution. Safety catches to prevent doors closing are only part of the answer. Some of these devices can be ineffective and do not address the hinge cavity area where the guillotine action of a closing door exerts tremendous pressure.
We advocate that suitable door hinge products are installed in line with our own Code of Practice to ensure all are protected from the dangers of closing doors.
